iPinot® Pinot Noir Digital Promotion!
Bob, I got here too late! Your cherry orchard is on top of my vineyard. We are living the dream making wine in the Willamette Valley.
iPinot® Pinot Noir - a reserve level wine without the reserve level price. iPinot® Pinot Noir is created from reserve quality barrels of wine selected for our “Hers and His Reserves” - Amalie’s Cuvée and Estate Selection Pinot Noirs. Once the final “Hers and His Reserve” wines are blended, we have a few reserve level barrels of wine left to blend. We blend these cellar worthy barrels of wine together to create iPinot® Pinot Noir - a reserve level wine without the reserve level price.
We learned wine while living overseas working in the high-tech world. We found that business was successfully conducted over a meal and a fine bottle of wine, or two. Over the course of a couple of years, we had developed a European palate. We favored wines with balance and acidity, not power and extraction. We experienced Burgundy through the lens of Domain Dujac and learned the single vineyards of Côte Rôtie with E. Guigal. Traditional Gran Reserva Rioja from López de Heredia was always special.
After a career in high-tech, we wanted to learn how to grow wine. We just had one problem, 1,188 Montmorency cherry trees were sitting on our newly acquired hallowed ground. After the cherry harvest, we pulled the trees and made preparations to plant our first 10 acres of vines.
Experience is what you get when you don’t get what you want. And we gained plenty of experience those first few years. But Oregon is a welcoming place, and we found that everyone contributes to your success. We also learned to associate more with the people who contribute in a POSITIVE way.
Oregon’s Willamette Valley is one of the very few places that can deliver world class Pinot Noir. We chose sedimentary soil for our vineyard site. We find more complexity in the wines produced from sedimentary vineyard soils than from volcanic soils. And quite recently, in geological terms, the area around our vineyard and winery site has been recognized as the second smallest AVA in the Willamette Valley.
It is one thing to recognize the characteristics of fine wine, it is quite another thing to be able to produce it. When we built our Estate winery in 2006, there was no looking back. Our wine style favors the traditional methods of utilizing whole cluster and wild yeast fermentation. We hand harvest our 35 acre vineyard, using only the grapes we grow to make Amalie Robert Estate wines. Bottling is done with a natural cork. Our labels are square, we don’t believe in cutting corners.
Estate grown, single vineyard Pinot Noir. Once the wine has been fermented and put to rest in barrel, our cellar work begins. Our focus in the cellar is to blend barrels of Pinot Noir to create complexity. We offer single clone bottlings including Dijon, Pommard and Wadenswil clone Pinot Noir. We also offer blends that reflect our individual palates including, Amalie’s Cuvée and Estate Selection. And then there is iPinot® Pinot Noir - a reserve level wine without the reserve level price.
We cellar age our wines so that when we release, they are ready to accompany a meal on your table. Fermenting with whole clusters makes the magic in our wines. Tannins from whole cluster fermentation add an elegance and spice in wine that takes time to develop. We find that things start to get interesting about 5 to 7 years past the vintage.
"Dena Drews and Ernie Pink have been quietly producing some of Oregon's most elegant and perfumed Pinots since the 2004 vintage. Their 30-acre vineyard outside the town of Dallas, abutting the famed Freedom Hill vineyard where Drews and Pink live, is painstakingly farmed and yields are kept low so production of these wines is limited. Winemaking includes abundant use of whole clusters, which is no doubt responsible for the wines' exotic bouquets and sneaky structure…"
