Amalie Robert Estate: Valentine's Day & 50 Shades of Red
Hello and Welcome,
It just so happens that the first romantic holiday of the New Year celebrates Valentine’s Day. What a great way to start 2025 with your very special someone! Especially if you did not exactly handle “only so many shopping days left until Christmas” very well, Nick.
As you should know, Valentine’s Day is Friday, February 14th. And if you have not made restaurant reservations already... Well, everyone deserves a second chance, but not a third. So don’t blow this one.
Or you could arrange for a nice evening in. Plenty of time left to plan for that. While we would certainly not want to impinge upon your savoir faire, we would suggest that at some point in your rendezvous, a glass of wine may be an appropriate gesture. Perhaps near a soothing fire that leads to a very private interlude. And perhaps, just maybe, another date.
We can certainly help you with the wine. Young relationships are akin to starting a fire. You have put some thought and effort into getting it going, but depending on several factors, including some out of your control, and others that you will never understand, it may or may not develop into a warming blaze. For these types of budding relationships, we would recommend a Pinot Noir Rosé. Nothing too serious, but it certainly leaves the door open to further advancement.
If you have been building fires together on a regular basis for a little while, perhaps the time is ripe for a little spontaneity. We have that covered. Offer up a tulip shaped stem of Pinot Meunier next to that glowing fire and watch the sparks fly! It could very well be that this is a new “first” in your burning relationship that will not soon be forgotten.
Sometimes the fire building rests on one partner, while the other partner’s strengths lie elsewhere. Often times in these scenarios, the expected is what is expected. Pinot Noir covers this evolutionary step in fire husbandry marvelously. While always Pinot Noir, it is not always the same. Subtle nuances can rekindle old flames, and it can be quite a joy to relive “Remember when…” moments.
As the fire matures, the flames recede to glowing embers and cast a wanton glow. An elegant and supple Chardonnay matured in French oak is a natural fit. As the glow of the coals ebb and flow you swoon in time. Here, in this moment, you are not likely to forget your first experience.
And there are those that choose a different path. Often times you will see them at bonfires to celebrate All Hollows Eve, better known as Halloween. These “bonfires” burn intensely for a short period of time. As satisfying as these fires are, a nice glass of Syrah can stoke a communal fire.
We wish you luck nurturing your own fire. Here is what we can offer you for the wine. To the victor go the spoils!
