The Great Cluster Pluck Has Begun!
Hello and Welcome,
The Great Cluster Pluck, Vintage 2023 has begun at Amalie Robert Estate! Our first day of Cluster Plucking Willamette Valley Pinot Noir in the Mt. Pisgah, Polk County, Oregon AVA was Monday, September 18th.
Finer than frog’s hair
The weather for the next couple of weeks is forecast to be moderate with daytime temperatures in the 70’s and cool nights dipping into the 40’s. There is a spot of rain forecast for the 20th, but things being what they are, that could change. All in all, just a great vintage.
We are looking forward to welcoming Vintage 2023 wine berries into the winery, where we plan to ferment the sugar out of them!
Here are a few images from our first day. You can follow along on Instagram @AmalieRobert to see more frequent updates, and visit our Substack account to read up on how Vintage 2023 came to be. When you check out Substack, look for the iPinot® Pinot Noir Fall 6-Pack Promotion!
The Numbers – Briefly
We have recorded 224.3 degree days for the first 15 days of September. The high temperature was 92.8 on September 15th at 4:36 pm. The low temperature was 45.1 recorded September 6th at 6:36 am.
We have received NO measurable precipitation for this 15 day period, and are not counting on any for the remainder of September. If we get any that would be fine, but most likely too little too late…
Total Degree Day accumulation for Vintage 2023 through September 15th is 2,298.2. That’s about as close to 2,300 as you can get, without actually getting there. Almost 2,300 but not really... The Pinot Noir is looking AWESOME, but the Syrah is going to be DYNAMITE!
Stay tuned for the not to be missed Harvest After Action Report (HAAR).
Kindest Regards,
Dena & Ernie
